Post Operative Care

The most critical information for a parent involves knowing how to manage a child who is numb. We will show both the parent and child how to be careful with their “sleepy” mouth following fillings, extractions or crowns. In the meantime, it is important to keep the lip, cheek and tongue out of harms way. Fortunately and unfortunately, the child won’t know they bit themselves until it’s too late. We will stress the importance of watching your child and helping them to not “play with the numb areas” We will also counsel on post operative diet instructions and timing. The numb feeling usually lasts about an hour and a half.

The Post Operative care instructions for a post sedation or post general anesthesia patient, will be detailed with written and verbal instructions.
